Blessing Okagbare: The Fastest Africa Woman Of All Time

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare was in the form of her life on Saturday in London as she entered the record books as Africa’s fastest woman of all time.

After first setting a new African record with her 10.86 secs time in her semi-final race, Okagbare upped the mark in the finals racing to an awesome 10.79secs to effectively throw into the thrash can the record of former compatriot, Gloria Alozie, set 13 years ago.

Before the finals, Jamaica’s reigning Olympic champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, ran a world leading 10.77 seconds to win thereby setting the stage for a keenly contested battle in the final.

Fortunately, Okagbare was in her best frame of mind in the final, storming out of the blocks in bullet-like fashion to win the race and the maximum IAAF Diamond League points to take her tally to 10, two behind Fraser-Pryce who could only manage a fourth place. Barbara Pierre of the United States (10.85) came second behind Okagbare.

With Saturday’s performance, Okagbare further brightens Nigeria’s hope for a medal at next month’s 14th IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Aside that she is on the path of rewriting history to become the second Nigerian woman after Alozie to win an individual medal at the IAAF flagship championships.

Keep it up girl.

APC Registered At Long Last

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the application by three political parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – to merge into one, to be known as the All Progressives Congress.

On considering the application, the Commission found that the applicant-parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger, and has accordingly granted their request.

Consequently, the Commission has approved the withdrawal of the individual certificates of the applicant-parties, and the issuance of a single certificate to the All Progressives Congress.

Who says patient dog will not find bone to eat? After all the stress, frustrations and controversies that characterized the journey of transformation of ACN, ANPP and CPC to APC the end justify the stress. BIG CONGRATS.

PDP Warns Five Northern Governors Over Visit To Baba Iyabo

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur has cautioned the five northern governors who were reported to have visited former Nigerian leaders and President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a statement signed by the media aide to the national chairman, Oliver Okpala, the five governors from Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Niger, and Adamawa were advised to embrace peace and stop dramatizing the few problems within the party.
The statement further said “the governors were also told to desist from any action that tends to overheat the polity and truncate the country’s nascent democratic structure”.

The leadership of the party also told the governors to express their grievances to the party’s leadership or the party’s reconciliation committee instead of going public.
Like seriously, ask me who is afraid of Baba Iyabo (Ebora Owu) and I will tell you to check out the power that be in ASO ROCK .  Oops! the fair of OBJ is the beginning of wisdom. LOL!

Nigeria To Commence Troop Pullout From Mali

Nigeria will begin withdrawing some of its 1,200 troops in Mali on Wednesday and redeploy them in security operations at home, the military said on Tuesday.

Nigeria has been planning the withdrawal of troop from Mali mainly due to the need for more soldiers to fight its own home grown Boko Haram insurgency.

Thank God. The action makes a whole lot of sense. Though it is good to help people when they are in trying times but that doesn't mean to sleep when there is fire on the mountain. After-all charity begins at home.

Which Way Nigeria

Oh God, see us through our trying time;
Oh God, keep exposing the wrong deed of our leaders;
Oh God, save us from ourselves;

I have come to realize that the major problem of this country is bad leadership and as time progresses the hearts of the citizens are poisoned. We wished for better times but we refused to change our ways. We should change the way we think about this country; we should change the way we criticize our leaders; we should change the way we see each other,we should see one another as a Nigerian before anything else.

Our love and respect for each other should be the bed rock of our unity. After all UNITED we stand.

ONE LOVE
